Way back in 2002 we holidayed in Scotia, the Highlands. Took a ten hour drive to get there, but it was definitely worth it.

It will be a pity if Scotland leave the Union (UK) only to remain in the Union (EU). Their choice, but possibly, their loss.

Beautiful country though.

Big lake Loch Ness. Did cycle round it one day when Wifey and sprogs went on neds for the afternoon at Borlum near Drumnadrochit. About 67 miles round, and with a puncture going up a steep bit.

Didn't see the monster but did see the replica of Drake's boat, the Golden Hind, sail up it one day.

Views on it and around it are spectacular. We took a 2 hour boat trip from Fort Augustus, but it didn't last long enough. Will have to go back one day.

Eilean Doonan is just one of those photo opps that if they didn't exist you'd just have to make. It is so photogenic. Could have spent days there. Must be one of the biggest tourist draws in the Highlands.

For the 2002 holiday we stayed in a holiday lodge at the Invermoriston Holiday Chalets. Comfortable, not completely basic and nicely situated at the lower end of Loch Ness. Useful point for journey north, south and west around the Loch.

Impressive old fort is George. We visited on a very atmospheric Sunday. There were dolphins playing just over the walls which we watched for a while. Oh, for a true telephoto lens that day.
