During our last road trip to the States in 2008, we stayed at Hawley Mountain Ranch in Montana. One of the trips, apart from the riding, was up into the Rockies on the back of 'Old Red', a 1969 vintage Ford pickup.
At the top of the track taken is an old mining ghost town and pristine lake.
The actual location is about 20 miles north of the Yellowstone boundry line and about 3-hours from any civilisation. In fact we met a group of walkers who had not seen anyone in 4 days!
These are the Abrosoka Beartooth Mountains.
